Thailand Deported 1,300 Rohingyas to Burma Island: Thai Police

Rohingya News Agency‏ ‏‎–(Irrawaddy):‎ Thailand’s Immigration Bureau commissioner Pharnu Kerdlarpphon has told The Bangkok Post that 1,300 Rohingya Muslims kept in Thai detention centers were deported back to Burma three months ago.

He said the men, women and children had been put on boats in Thailand’s Ranong Province and taking to Thahtay Kyun, a small island in the Mergui Archipelago in southern Burma known for its Thai casinos.

Thousands of Rohingyas, who face prosecution in western Burma, have fled to Thailand in an effort to reach Malaysia.

A Reuters investigation alleged that Thai police prey on the Rohingyas, asking them for bribes before turning them over to human traffickers.
