Bangladesh to issue 5 lakh IDs to Rohingyas in KSA

Rohingya News Agency-(The Daily Star):‎ ‎The government of Bangladesh will issue identity cards for five lakh Rohingyas who are staying in Saudi Arabia without work permit, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said on Wednesday.

“Our foreign and home ministries have decided to issue the ID cards after a request from the Saudi government following declaration of general amnesty,” he said.
About the issuing the IDs, the minister explained as Rohingya people went to the KSA using Bangladeshi routes and passports in different times, the Saudi government has requested Bangladesh to issue the cards for the people.
But later they will be recognised as Myanmar nationals.

“The government however would not issue passports for the Rohingyas,” the minister said at a press briefing at his ministry following his recent visit to Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
The minister also urged the Bangladeshis staying in the KSA without legal permit to take advantage of the amnesty which ends on November 4.

About slow pace of sending workers to Kula Lumpur, the minister said, “Malaysia has halted recruiting from Bangladesh as the newly elected government there is yet to come to terms with Bangladesh in this regard.”
Starting from April 25, a total of 23,340 workers were scheduled to go to Malaysia in two phases, while only 198 workers have been recruited in the last three months.
Export of workforce to Malaysia will resume by the end of July, an optimistic minister replied.
