One Rohingya woman and three children drowned in the water after they went out to collect (pieces of) firewood at the ‘Ohn Taw Gyi’ beach in Sittwe (Akyab) Township around 11:00 AM yesterday.
Of them, only one boy managed to swim across a river (of the sea) connected to the ‘Ohn Taw Gyi’ beach and the other three died.
The cause of their deaths was apparently due to the sudden rise of water level or high tides, the locals believe.
Their dead bodies were found washed up at the beach around 2:00PM of the day (i.e. April 12, 2016).
The police took away their bodies and returned them at 5:00 PM after post-mortem. After that, they were given burials according to Islamic procedures.
