Rohingya News Agency-(Prensa Latina): Many residents in Meiktila city, Myanmar, believe that the violence registered in the last few days could have been caused by foreign influence, said UN special envoy, Vijay Nambiar, in this capital on Wednesday.
Nambiar, who is visiting Myanmar, also considered that the rebellion and killings staged in the city were carried out with brutal efficiency.
The UN representative said that the burnout of houses increased the anger between the Budist and Muslim communities and led to that level of violence.
The two religious groups have been involved in Camp clashes since last March 20, with the worst part for the Islam followers who reported the majority of the 40 dead caused by the clashes.
As result of the violence, about 9000 people left their homes, and scores of houses and mosques were burned down. Police arrested 23 people and there are threats of a spread of violence to other cities, including Yangun city.
Myanmar's President Thein Sein has told the UN representative that they will firmly act against the perpetrators of violence in Meiktila City.
