Rohingya News Agency –(Bernama) -- Myanmar has received US$40 million in aid from the Japanese government to set up three weather radars and 30 automatic weather observation stations to strengthen early warning systems.
Transport Minister U Nyan Tun Aung said at a hydromet observation and information system workshop in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday a project will be implemented from 2014 to 2017 in this regard, Xinhua news agency reports the New Light of Myanmar as saying.
Besides Japan, the World Bank is supporting Myanmar by equipping a hydromet centre with advanced equipment and technology at US$35 million.
Earlier reports said the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has helped Myanmar install radar systems in Yangon, Mandalay and Kyaukphyu to upgrade weather forecast work.
