Turkish FM proposes 'action plan' for Myanmar

Rohingya News Agency‏ – ‏‎(AA): Minister Davutoglu says the plan aims to form a stronger link between Myanmar ‎and OIC, and enhanced dialogue among Muslims and Buddhists in the country

NAYPYIDAW (AA) - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said he proposed an action plan to the ‎Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to improve the humanitarian situation in Myanmar, during his visit to ‎the country.‎

Davutoglu, who met his Burmese counterpart Wunna Maung Lwin, told AA reporter Thursday that the plan entails ‎the creation of a dialogue mechanism between OIC and Myanmar, mediated by an embassy in ‎capital Naypyidaw, possibly the Turkish mission.‎

OIC is the second largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations, with a membership of 57 ‎states, including Turkey.‎

Davutoglu said the plan also floated the possibility of establishing a Muslim-Buddhist international conference to ‎serve as a platform for confidence-building efforts.‎

Myanmar has been mired in intermittent clashes along religious lines since two major waves of riots mainly ‎against the Muslim population there in June and October last year. ‎

The violence has killed several hundred people and displaced well over 100,000.‎
