The Myanmar authorities have seized a record haul of narcotic drugs in Mandalay, the second largest city in the north, at the weekend, official media reported Monday.

The drugs valued at 30 billion kyats (24.5 million U.S. dollars) were confiscated when the local drug squad searched a container inside the compound of a house in Pyigyidagun township in Mandalay.

The seizure was described as the largest ever in the region.

The search led to the arrest of three people involved in the case. They were found in possession of stimulant pills and drug paraphernalia, the report said.

According to the police, the three people were each paid 500,000 kyats (409 USD) per trip from Shan state's Kutkai to Mandalay to transport drugs.

Two days earlier, the Myanmar authorities also seized hundreds of thousands of yabba pills, drug paraphernalia among others during a raid on a house in Yangon.

Another six drug dealers were arrested in this connection.

Official statistics show that Myanmar exposes over 6,400 drug-related cases in 2015, arresting 9,188 offenders.
